Monitor Calibration



In order to see all the tonal differences within the photographs on the John Hallett Photography website, it is important that your monitor is correctly calibrated. Below is a simple, but effective, method using a greyscale.

 

1) Use the same lighting in the room that is usual when you use your computer.

2) Turn the contrast up on your monitor to 100%

3) Study the greyscale picture below:

 



4) Adjust the brightness on your monitor until you can see all 26 squares


In a similar test, you should be able to see all of the coloured squares below:

If you change the lighting in the room then you will need to re-calibrate your monitor.
