Jackfield Free Bridge detail Jackfield page updated in the Ironbridge Gorge section - more pictures and information.
01/01/09

The site has had a slight re-vamp and the galleries section is now split into 5 – which hopefully will make it easier for visitors to choose their specific interests.

There is now a separate gallery for black & white photographs and a new section for concept shots, i.e. not ‘traditional’ types of photographs but those that are supposed to provoke a reaction of thought or imagination.
In addition there are images added to the General gallery and the Ironbridge gallery.

In this special Xmas update I have included a list of stocking-filler priced photographic gifts that may give you or your loved ones some ideas for the photographer in the family.

Also, I have included an interactive photographic quiz to while-away a few minutes after the Christmas pudding.

This will be the last update this year as I concentrate on preparing for my family's Christmas celebrations but weekly updates to the site will resume in 2009.

The second panorama added - October dawn over the Ironbridge Gorge. It was dark and it was cold. Was it worth it? -let me know.....
15/11/08

1) Some images taken last weekend at dawn by the Coalport china works and Shropshire canal.

2) New Ironbridge Gorge gallery added - all these photographs are from in and around this world-famous world heritage site.

3) I have been berated for not mentioning that selected images are now available to purchase from a selected microstock library - so now I have.

Panorama by John Hallett
I have slightly modified the website this time - removing a few sections to make way for new ones. One of the new sections will be devoted to panoramic landscape photographs - an example of which has been added today.

Pier on North Wales beach
A week-end trip to north Wales provided numerous photographic opportunities. Several memory cards were filled and a selection of images have been added to the gallery.

Photograph of logs by John Hallett
Images added from the Lloyds coppice, near Ironbridge and Haughmond Hill, near Shrewsbury.

The ironbridge
Since I live in the Ironbridge Gorge, a Unesco designated World Heritage site, I thought that I had better utilise my daily access to the stunning views and architecture and dedicate a section of the site to it.

Tall factory photographed by John Hallett
Urban landscapes and autumnal colour. Two contrasting sets of images taken during a recent wander around an industrial estate close to where I work.

Power station at Ironbridge
A brief respite from the rain meant that I could finally take the last images required for my forthcoming Ironbridge Gorge section of the website (see above). This shot may not make it to that section but I thought it good enough to add to the gallery.

Two added this time:

1) How to incorporate a Lightroom web-gallery into an existing website style.

2) Keep up-to-date with photographers websites using RSS .

Bedlam furnaces lit again
As part of the Cultural Olympiad's 'Open Up Weekend' on 26th & 27th September the Ironbridge Gorge was illuminated with a spectacular light show. Bedlam Furnaces were lit up in a manner that reflected how they must have looked back in the 1700's and the Bridge itself was highly illuminated. With decent weather it made for a great photographic night - especially since two friends joined me with their gear - and we rounded off the night in a local hostelry.

Pentwyn reservoir
Photographs from our mini-break in south Wales. The weather was very kind but it looks like that was the end of our summer. This was another huge learning experience but I came back with a lot more confidence in both myself as a photographer and with my camera's ability to cope with what I want out of it.

Wow,- what a learning curve I've been through. Not just with the new technology and methods of working with digital photography - but also with web design and what people expect now compared with pre-broadband connections. So I've documented down some of the stuff I wish I'd been given. None of it is new but it's all together in one place and (hopefully) in an easy to read format.

Stained glass at Jackfield
The weather has not been kind over the past week but I just had to get out and get some shots of something - so off I went on a walk through Jackfield village.

Showjumping
BSJA Scope Festival of Showjumping at Staffordshire County Showground. The largest showjumping event in the UK gave me a short, sharp reminder of how different sports photography is to landscapes & nature. I realised too late that I should have banged the ISO levels up high so that I could optimse the aperture (and hence depth of field) to give me some focusing latitude. I still think in terms of film cameras where you can't just turn a dial to adjust ISO levels - but have to buy a special film and run it all through the camera. Technology's great - if you remember!

Wrekin view
A Sunday morning trek up the Wrekin, 1335 ft (407m), for some shots over the Shropshire plain.
21/07/08
Poppy heads
More macro shots. Getting to grips with the limited depth-of-field now - but still work to be done.
15/07/08
Ducks on a pond
A summers evening walking around Horsehay pool. Even the ducks seemed chilled out (although underwater they may have been paddling furiously).
05/07/08
Wheelbarrow and tools
Our friend Alisons stable yard gave me a few different shots to play with.
28/06/08
Sage building roof
My brother & sister-in-law took us on a guided tour of their home-city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. What a place! - I could easily spend days here and fill up countless memory cards. Pity we were only here a few hours. Must make plans to returns - for a longer period.
25/06/08
Little waterfall
Northumberland - my first visit to this part of the world. Everyone raves about the rugged coastline but, to me, the inland views are just as picturesque.
